In counselling, people receive assistance in understanding the nature of their difficulty
and in identifying the resources they need to solve their own problems. They are supported in choosing a course of action which
will more fully satisfy their current needs. The focus is mostly on the external world of the person, that is, on relationships at
work and at home, and on the behaviour of the person in these situations.
Psychotherapy is a longer-term process that focuses more on the person’s internal world, that is the beliefs, attitudes, thoughts and feelings
which may be contributing to the difficulties the person is experiencing. The emphasis is on exploring difficulties that are being experienced
in terms of their meaning and origin in personal history. Problems are viewed from a developmental point of view. The psychotheraphy process
strengthens and deepens the relationship with oneself and leads to more satisfying relationships with others.

Couples are guided towards an awareness of what is presently happening as well as what both partners would like to happen. They are assisted in
finding a way of communicating which will more fully satisfy their current needs. Couples and individual partners who are experiencing stress can be
assisted in the resolution of the distress and improved family functioning.
Employers may contract individual practitioners from Wasley to provide confidential counselling to their staff. Such an arrangement allows employees
to make a limited number of appointments confidentially with the practitioner.
Professional supervision, including clinical supervision, is offered to individuals and small groups in the area of health care, education, management and business. Supervision
provides a reflective space which assists practitioners to develop skills, knowledge and wisdom as they engage thoughtfully with the dilemmas of professional practise. Supervision
enables ongoing development of the professional identity beyond academic preparation.
Supervision may also be contracted with the supervisor as a pair or in small groups for a longer session time and sharing the cost.
